MEXICO CITY, July 20, 2023 – Sempra Infrastructure Foundation today published its report on the results achieved in 2022, a year in which $30.7 million pesos were allocated to support 47 social projects through 32 organizations.
Sempra Infrastructure Foundation reinforces its social commitment by focusing its efforts on two key areas. First, promoting the development of skills, education, and research in energy and environment through scholarships and research projects. Secondly, strengthening community energy security, primarily through the electrification of care homes and centers for vulnerable groups using clean energy sources. In this way, Sempra Infrastructure Foundation contributes to improving education in Mexico and supports and energy transition where no one is left behind.
Transforming Lives
The purpose of Sempra Infrastructure Foundation has always been to transform lives by contributing to organizations and programs that create well-being and support the development of the communities where Sempra Infrastructure operates. As a result, over 800,000 people have benefited from this seven-year-long charitable work.
Under this commitment, during 2022, Sempra Infrastructure Foundation focused on activities benefiting education, the environment, vulnerable groups, and community services to build a stronger Mexico and a better future for all. Highlighting the following pillars:
Education
The Foundation focused its educational projects on scholarships for Mexican youth, primarily university students, in collaboration with organizations such as Comite Pro Becas Sonora, Eduser, Fundacion Carlos Elizondo, Fundacion UABC, and CETYS University, among others.
For Arleth Romero, a scholarship recipient studying Quality Systems Engineering at the Universidad Autónoma Indígena de México, this program represents a community benefit. “Education is essential to me because educated women contribute substantially to prosperous economies and to improving our own and our families’ economic situation,” explained Romero.
Environment
Sempra Infrastructure Foundation installed solar panels and water heaters in collaboration with associations such as AMANC Veracruz, Casa Hogar del Anciano Ensenada, IAMM Acciones para un Mundo Mejor, and BAMX, among others.
These initiatives provided a dual benefit. On the one hand, they provided access to clean, reliable energy, supporting an energy transition that is inclusive. On the other hand, they generated savings that allowed organizations to allocate resources to other priority expenses.
According to Benny Araujo, representative of Casa Hogar del Anciano Ensenada, “the installation of 55 solar panels has contributed to saving on energy costs for the care home. Having a better-illuminated facility and being able to use heaters during the cold, and fans during the summer, improves the quality of life for fifty-four senior residents.”
All these efforts align with a long-term vision based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In this way, Sempra Infrastructure Foundation contributes to achieving nine of these global objectives aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity for all.
