Check out how Matthew Espy, Gas Marketer II for Sempra LNG, lives our value of shaping the future inside and outside our company.
Q: Tell us about yourself! What are some of your interests and hobbies?
Pre-pandemic, after work I could usually be found at the zoo, at one of the museums in Balboa Park or at e3 Civic High in the library where I often do volunteer SAT prep.
I was particularly excited about the opening of the San Diego Symphony's Shell stage in Embarcadero Park last summer and hope I can attend some great concerts this summer.
Q: Tell us about your role and how long you've been with Sempra LNG.
I have worked in the operations center for just over six years where I currently am a natural gas marketer on our Gulf desk. Our role is to manage storage and transportation assets necessary for getting gas to LNG terminals.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role? What do you find most rewarding?
What's enjoyable about my role is that it is a fast-paced adventure every day. We look at markets every morning and act quickly to deliver gas to different markets, while also keeping an eye on the big picture and long-term strategy. We find opportunities to grow the business and the results from that effort are seen daily.
Q: Which one of our values, do the right thing, champion people and shape the future, do you relate to the most and why?
The value I most identify with is shaping the future. In addition to volunteering at e3, I also mentor students through the Reality Changers program. My current mentee just gained admission to Stanford University, which he will attend in the fall. I think it is important to shape the future in that way and I appreciate that not only does Sempra match charitable donations but also that I am able to log my volunteer hours and Sempra will donate to charities based on volunteer hours as well.
