Tell us about yourself and what hobbies you enjoy
I have been a part of the Port Arthur LNG team for ten years and I have been in the oil and gas industry for over 26 years. I am a resident of Port Arthur, Texas and am happily married.
Most of my colleagues are aware of my passion for football, but many don’t know that chess was my favorite sport during my childhood. I absolutely love playing chess, although these days I don’t get much time to play it, it was a significant part of my life.
Can you tell us about your role as HSS supervisor?
I develop, monitor, and evaluate emergency response plans, safety requirements, and inspections. Furthermore, I am responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees, the environment, and the surrounding communities. As a part of the Sempra Infrastructure team, I am a critical member of the Port Arthur LNG project. I work alongside contractors on-site to ensure safety is always a top priority. My motto is – no one should care for your safety more than you. It makes me proud to see the Port Arthur LNG safety culture continue to champion a Safety-First mindset.
What do you enjoy most about your role and what makes it rewarding?
I enjoy being able to connect with people every day. I am passionate about safety and making a difference. It is rewarding to pass on my knowledge to the next generation.
I meet new industry employees coming in to work on the project after graduating college or trade school and teach them the importance of what we do so that as they grow in this field, they will always know how to return home safely to their families. That is the most important thing.
From your vantage point, what impact is Port Arthur LNG making on the community?
I am grateful for the opportunities to engage with the community and give back on behalf of Port Arthur LNG.
Port Arthur LNG continues to positively impact the Port Arthur community by supporting various non-profits, chambers, and organizations, and helps boost the local economy by providing local jobs and supporting small businesses.
For as long as I have been a part of Port Arthur LNG, our company not only talks the talk but also walks the walk when it comes to being visible and impactful in this community. It is humbling and rewarding to see the impact of this company on the community, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
What does honoring Black History Month mean to you?
Honoring Black History Month means everything to me. I admire not just the country acknowledging the history and achievements of my community, but also seeing that Fortune 500 companies are also celebrating this month.
When I joined Sempra Infrastructure, I noticed their unique approach of honoring Black History Month and also celebrating the diversity of cultures. The company truly values its employees and recognizes them as its most valuable asset.
Who is an African American leader or person in your life or community that most inspires you?
My parents are my greatest inspiration. They kept me motivated to accomplish great things and achieve at an even higher level than they did. I am immensely grateful to them.
