Every year, the World LNG Summit and Awards convenes senior leaders from across the global LNG value chain to discuss the crucial role LNG and natural gas play in delivering energy security, economic stability, and the ongoing drive for decarbonization. This year’s summit focused on defining the evolving role of LNG and gas in ensuring energy security, supporting economic stability, and furthering the drive toward decarbonization.
As part of the annual event, the World LNG Awards are given to companies and individuals who have contributed to the development and future of the LNG industry through either commercial or technological innovation.
Sempra Infrastructure was recognized during this year’s World LNG Awards as the 2023 recipient of the World LNG Energy Transition Award, in recognition of its focus on reducing emissions, while supporting increased renewable power generation and production of alternative fuels. This significant industry recognition highlights our commitment to finding innovative solutions as we pursue our mission of delivering energy for a better world.
Mike VanderMate, senior vice president of engineering and construction, accepted this award on behalf of the company. “I am thrilled to represent Sempra Infrastructure as we receive this recognition,” VanderMate said. “This award is a tribute to the dedication and hard work of each of my colleagues. Our decades of experience, network of talent, and commitment to operational excellence enable us to successfully deliver projects across the LNG, net-zero, energy networks, and clean power sectors, all of which are crucial to meet the global energy needs of the future.”
The past two years have been hallmarked by a global energy crisis and a seismic shift in world energy markets. As a result, energy supplies were constrained, countries scrambled to secure high-demand resources and consumers were stressed by rising costs and uncertainty over future energy security. Through it all, Sempra Infrastructure navigated this challenging environment and delivered an extraordinary record of performance.
In this timeframe, we achieved multiple commercial milestones such as declaring a positive FID for Port Arthur LNG Phase 1, announcing proposed projects exploring opportunities in LNG and carbon capture and sequestration, an agreement to supply clean energy into California, and a framework for collaboration with Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission to continue developing natural gas projects in the country. These projects, and others, are not only strengthening our company’s North American integration goals, but they are also helping enable further progress towards a responsible energy transition. These efforts were noticed throughout the industry, and the recognition of these efforts through the World LNG Energy Transition Award is a testament to the collective effort of the entire Sempra Infrastructure team.
As we move into 2024, we are well-positioned to continue the successful trajectory through our market position, our mission and our people. We will define that success both in our continued business development and our work with partners and communities domestically and around the world, all with an ongoing commitment to our sustainability strategy and to our role in helping achieve a secure, reliable and cleaner energy future for all.
Sempra Infrastructure’s journey is marked by a commitment to meet the current global demand for energy infrastructure, and to do so responsibly.
