ENSENADA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, Feb. 15, 2023 – Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra (NYSE: SRE) (BMV: SRE), announced the opening of its new corporate offices in Ensenada, Baja California, located inside the Caracol Science Museum. Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Governor of Baja California and Armando Ayala, Mayor of Ensenada attended the inauguration event.
Approximately 50 Sempra Infrastructure local employees that support operations in Baja California, as well as the ECA LNG liquefaction project, are based in this new location, which further demonstrates the company’s growth in the state.
“Sempra Infrastructure’s history in Mexico began in Baja California more than 25 years ago, and it is one of the states where we have the largest presence and investment. We are excited that the location of these corporate offices allows us to generate new partnerships to help the Ensenada community and the environment,” said Tania Ortiz Mena, president of Sempra Infrastructure for Mexico.
The partnership between Sempra Infrastructure and the Caracol Science Museum began when the museum was inaugurated in 2013. In the past ten years, Sempra Infrastructure has provided funds in support of environmental education programs and workshops, including a Nature Photography Forum in 2022 and the production of environmental documentaries, among other activities. Sharing the same location will further facilitate the implementation of new programs and initiatives that promote environmental education and protection of the State.
In Baja California, Sempra Infrastructure currently operates Rumorosa Solar, Energía Sierra Juárez Phase I and II wind farm, the Termoeléctrica de Mexicali power plant, the Ecogas natural gas distribution company, and a network of natural gas pipelines in the state. Sempra Infrastructure is also building the ECA LNG Phase 1 liquefaction project, developing the Cimarrón wind farm in Tecate, and recently announced an agreement with Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Carso Energy for a potential joint development of a new natural gas pipeline to connect Baja California to the country’s national gas pipeline network.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were Kurt Ignacio Honold Morales, Baja California’s Secretary of Economy, Admiral Ruben Alfonso Vargas Suárez, Commander of the Navy’s 2nd Region, and Carlos Alfonso Carral Montejano, President of the Caracol Science Museum’s Board of Trustees.
