Sempra Infrastructure is developing the Titan Carbon Sequestration project, a proposed carbon capture and storage facility designed to sequester carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the Port Arthur LNG facility and potentially other industrial sources. This proposed project would advance the company’s low carbon goals and could reduce the carbon intensity of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Port Arthur LNG customers.

Signed storage easements in July 2023 with a consortium of landowners covering approximately 38,000 acres for development of the proposed project.

The project is proposed to support the Port Arthur LNG project.

Filed a Class VI application with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in February 2024.

About the Titan Carbon Sequestration Project

Located west of Sabine Pass, Texas, and proximal to the Port Arthur LNG facility, the Titan Carbon Sequestration project is proposed to capture and store CO₂ from the company’s LNG operations. The project is part of the company’s proposed Port Arthur Energy Hub, which could serve as a flagship hub for the energy transition. The proposed project includes capturing CO₂ from the Port Arthur LNG facility and transporting it by pipeline, where it would be stored using an injection well in a saline formation over a mile below the earth’s surface.

In 2024, Titan Carbon Sequestration commenced the permitting process, filing a Class VI application with the EPA. As part of the ongoing project development, the company has also begun geotechnical and land studies along the proposed land parcels.

Development of the project is contingent upon completing the required commercial agreements, securing and/or maintaining all necessary permits, obtaining financing, and reaching a final investment decision, among other factors and considerations.

Safety and Environmental Stewardship

The Titan Carbon Sequestration project will be designed to meet rigorous industry standards, using proven and well-regulated sequestration protocols in the energy industry. CO₂ injection wells are regulated by the EPA with standards that provide comprehensive requirements for siting, construction, operation, testing, monitoring, and eventually permanent closure. When operational, Titan Carbon Sequestration would utilize real-time monitoring with advanced fiber optic technology and regular site visits to help ensure Sempra Infrastructure’s commitment to safety and sustainability.
